I think Kid A/Amnesiac discusses the afterlife ambiguously. MPS is a song with an incredible amount of resolution, peace and thinking space in it, and the music itself is really calm and thoughtful, so when it goes silent, there isn't any tension for me. Who said the afterlife was noisy? It's a peaceful silence. The visuals of the music video complement the track really well for me. Which is some fairly dark imagery, yeah, but I think there's a pretty menacing undertone to the track (and I can only think that that's what the band was going for, as a sort of metaphor for the themes of the song, not necessarily as part of a concept)īut following that interpretation, I think of Motion Picture Soundtrack as being a bittersweet, sentimental reflection on the events of the album, like an epitaph to the life of the narrator. I don't really see the song as about representing suicide but I've seen it suggested that Morning Bell represents the suicide or death of the narrator / subject in question - and honestly, I've always thought that after the tense buildup of instruments joining the mix, the harsh high-pitched sounds at around 3:55 in that song make me think of a hang rope stretching tight - followed by each instrument individually fading / stopping, as if each one represents a different sense fading before the subject dies of asphyxiation after hanging themself. I don't generally follow the idea that Kid A is a concept album, but there are a lot of ways to interpret it.
